About me

Laura Scott
Counsellor & Psychotherapist for individuals and couples, online and in-person

About me : Credentials and experience

My natural style is to be open hearted, with warmth and a smile. I create an accepting and non-judgmental space in my sessions, so that you can feel understood and comfortable to explore what’s going on for you.

I trained as a relationships counsellor in Scotland and subsequently moved to Surrey where, since 2018, I have worked with couples and individuals within Relate.

As a Registered member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I work to their ethical and professional standards. I also hold a diploma qualification in the provision of therapy by online means, recognised by the Association for Counselling and Therapy Online (ACTO) and I  adhere to their professional standards for the provision of online therapy.

I provide counselling and therapy to couples and individuals aged 18 years and older, using psychodynamic, systemic and other approaches.

Prior to counselling, my career in the law in Edinburgh included mentoring and coaching as well as involvement with LawCare. LawCare is a charity devoted to good mental health within the legal profession.

About me : Education

  • PG Diploma in Leadership and Management (University of the West of Scotland)
  • PG Diploma in Relationship Counselling (DiRC) awarded by Relationships Scotland
  • Post Grad Diploma in Online Counselling (OCST)

About me : Services

In-person / Face to Face Practice

Many people are keen to return to face to face sessions and I look forward to doing so while keeping you safe and your confidentiality upheld.

I have introduced new ways to keep you physically safe during face to face sessions but while the rate of COVID infections remains high and the NHS contact tracing programme is in operation, there may be consequences for the confidentiality of your involvement in counselling. If you are interested in face to face work I would encourage you to get in touch so that we can discuss the ramifications.

Where face to face work is possible and agreed, I follow the BACP guidance and risk assessment requirements which include: provision of hand sanitiser, thorough cleaning between clients, increased ventilation in the therapy room and social distancing of at least 1m between client(s) and myself at all times.  Please get in touch if you have any questions and I will be happy to discuss the practicalities.
